Thirteen things to know about the governor-elect of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode

With the gubernatorial elections in Lagos over, here are 13 things you should  know about Akinwunmi Ambode, the APC gubernatorial candidate who has been declared winner of the 2015 gubernatorial elections in Lagos state.




  1. Akinwunmi Ambode was born June 14, 1963 at the Epe General Hospital, Epe in  Lagos state .

  2. He is married to Bolanle Patience Ambode (nee Odukomaiya) and they are blessed with children.

  3. He is the sixth child of ten children.

  4. In 1967, when Akin was still four years old, his father moved to the mainland part of Lagos with the family and continued his teaching career until his death in 1981.

  5. He began his education at St. Jude’s Primary School, Ebutte Meta, Lagos, Nigeria in 1969.

  6. He was admitted to Federal Government College (FGC), Warri in 1974.

  7. After FGC Warri, he proceeded to University of Lagos where he studied Accounting and graduated at the age of 21 in 1984.

  8. He served his mandatory National Youth Service Corps year with the Central Bank of Nigeria in Sokoto State.

  9. After his NYSC year, Ambode commenced his career at the Lagos State Waste Disposal Board (now LAWMA) as Accountant Grade II.

  10. In 1998, Ambode was awarded the US Fulbright Scholarship for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program, in Boston University, Massachusetts, USA.

  11. He voluntarily retired from the the civil service in August 2012, after 27 years.

  12. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Brandsmiths Consulting Limited – which specializes in public sector finance management.

  13. He is the founder of La Roche Leadership Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on developing the next generation of leaders.
